Murua stands on a gentle hill in Elciego, enveloped by the historic vineyards which surround this traditional bodega. Silence, darkness and the slow passage of time permeate the cellars where its classic, elegant wines are made; genuine treasures that are painstakingly fashioned from the terroir through to the bottle.

Murua is situated at the heart of the Rioja Alavesa, together with some of the most historical wineries of the region. It is precisely located in Elciego, one of the towns in the area with most winemaking tradition.

Life in this beautiful medieval town, dotted with noble stone houses, revolves around wine, forming a socio-economic network, where small producers, family-run wineries and medium and large bodegas all live in harmony.

Murua follows the methods traditionally used in Rioja for making its wines. Based on grapes from our own vineyards, we harvest at the optimum point of ripeness by hand and using boxes, selecting the grapes at the vine itself before making a further selection, bunch by bunch, at the reception table after their arrival at the bodega.
